May Prayer Circle--------Pray For Your Children!

We are great mothers, training, protecting, and guiding our children into a world that is evolving with no playbook. Sometimes even after giving our best, we see our children struggling to form an identity, struggling to live according to their godly values in a world that has removed God from daily routines, and struggling to live up to the expectations of their parents and society. Through all of these struggles, as we mothers try to find a solution for our children, we forgot to present them to God in prayers.

How often do you pray for your children, calling their names one by one and naming those things they are struggling with? What the devil needs most from anyone is his or her mind. Whoever controls the mind controls the ability, capacity, and actions. Satan being a smart deceiver targets kids through what goes into their minds through portals such as social media, television, the music they listen to etc. Today the media is responsible for about 70% of the influence our children get, 20% comes from people outside the home, including friends and teachers, and 10 % from immediate family. Our goals as mothers should be to flip these percentages with prayer at the forefront. When you feel like you're losing your kids, pray for them, when they need help and you can't help, pray. In fact pray before the situation happens. If their attitudes flips out of the ordinary, pray for them while you redirect them.

I had a wake up call last year when my daughter suddenly began losing interest in school and failing massively. I knew it wasn't her, I restricted every possible distraction in her life so she could focus but it wasn't working. I was so frustrated with her and couldn't understand why she was throwing her future away after all I had done. Not being used to handling such things with prayer, I beat myself up as a mother and one day while out of options, I burst out in tears and begin praying to God for my child. I told him he give me that child to raise according to his word, and he God is bountiful in wisdom and understanding so his child can not lack wisdom. Long story short, within a week's time, my daughter snapped out and got back to getting her work done independently. She couldn't believe she had slacked that much and couldn't understand why. Since then, I have come to understand the importance of praying for our children and that the devil will attack them to get at us. I do not say a prayer to God without mentioning her name.

In Deuteronomy 6: 6-7, God instructs us to keep his commandments in our hearts and impress them on our children. We should talk about his commandments when sit at home, when we walk along the road, when we lie down and when we get up. Are we teaching them about God and his laws? Do they know how to go to God for help when they're stuck, do they know the promises of God concerning their lives?

May - Pray For Your Children

This month is all about your children! Yes there has to be a change in their current situations. whether you have children or not, you can pray for other children you see struggling, and you can definitely pray for your unborn children as well. There are many areas we can focus on this month as we pray, but here are a few areas you can begin with.

  1. Pray for your child to heed instructions- Obedience to the instructions of parents gives life to children. Ephesians 6:1-3, Proverbs 1:8-9

  2. Pray for wisdom and understanding- God gives wisdom to all who ask him. James 1:5

  3. Pray for love in their hearts towards God and Man- Love is the greatest commandment, and today we see more hate than love. Matthew 22:37-38

  4. Pray for peace for them- The peace of God keeps them in control of situations, it maintains their values and their faith in God's promises for them. Isaiah 54:13

Remember when you pray:

  • Confess your sins to God - 1John 1:9

  • Ask and it will be given - Matthew 7:7

  • Forgive when you pray - Mark 11:25

  • Believe when you pray - Mark 11:24
