Health Is WEALTH- June Goal

JUNE GOAL - Reduce Sugar Intake

Sugar has a bittersweet effect when it comes to health. Majority of us have some form of sweets craving though some more than others, we can all adjust the amount the sugar we consume.

Sugar is naturally found in foods containing carbohydrates, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy. Eating food that contains natural sugar is okay. The problem is when we consume too much added sugar, which is sugar added by manufacturers to enhance flavors and increase shelf life. How much sugar is too much, is not clearly defined, but American Heart Association suggest no more than 150 calories (9 teaspoon or 36 grams) which is equivalent to a 12-ounce can of soda.

Top Sources of Added Sugar

  • Soft drinks and fruit drinks

  • Cookies and Cakes

  • cereals and yogurts

  • Candies

  • Most processed foods

Tips for reducing sugar

  • Keep Tabs/track this goal- Write this goal in your Personal Development Planner under success habits and check it off daily if you met your sugar reduction goal

  • Read food labels -reading labels for sugar content helps you be more aware of how much added sugar you are consuming in every meal or snack.

  • Toss the table sugar - cut back on white or brown sugar, honey and molasses.

  • Swap out the soda - Water is the best! If you're a heavy drinker of soda, cut back gradually so it's easier to maintain success.

  • Eat Fresh Fruits - Better natural sugar than added sugar

Excess sugar has high a high impact on obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. So reducing your intake now will lead to a much healthier life. Remember our goal is to stay consistent with the little changes we make so they become long-term habits. Hope you can continue to maintain your portion control, increase your water intake, as well as reduce your caffeine intake, and add on reducing your sugar intake.
