2 Expectations of God for You

There are many expectations God has of us if we are to be called his children and if we are to remain in his presence. You can go to the ten commandments for some, but there are two important expectations of us that has to do with how we live in this world and what we do while we are here. These simple discoveries will redefine your life's purpose and place you on a journey of self-discovery.

One of the greatest search in life is finding or knowing our purpose. While that discovery is beautiful and meaningful, there are two simple discoveries that will change your life in a way you didn't expect, and it pleases the Lord to live in such a way.

1. YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD - We must first understand the purpose of a light if we must understand our roles as lights. We light a lamp and put it on a stand to give light to the room and help people see and find their way around that space. We do not light a lamp to put it under a table or hide it in a box or closet. Light attracts people and give them a sense of direction. We are to help others see clearly and find their way. But how do we do that? Scripture says " let your light shine so that others may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven." Our light is the good works we do (career, academic, community, church etc.), the good character within us, the awesome talents we have, the positive attitude we project, and so on. What is even more important is where we display the light. We do not put it under a bowl because it would defeat its purpose. In the same way, we are to display our good works, display our talents and good character wherever we go so that others will see and come to glorify God. If we are the light in the world, then it's save to say the world would be dark without us. We became the light because God now lives within us through the Holy Spirit. God is depending on us to channel his truth to the world by how we live and interact with others. Today if we see so many evil in the world, that should mean we are not shining bright enough. We have allowed our lights to grow dim and darkness has overtaken. You are the light of the world!

2. YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH - The purpose of the salt is to give the food flavor, which leads to great satisfaction and desire for more. In order for the salt to accomplish that purpose, it must work its way through the dish to savor it, influencing the taste of everything in the food. In the same way we are to add flavor to the world and we can do that through influencing the people around us. As salt comes in different shapes, colors, and textures, we too come from different backgrounds and experiences that can inspire and transform the world for the better. But if the salt loses its saltiness, it is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled by men. If you are not influencing the people around you for the better, you may soon lose your saltiness and may be of no use to God. You are the salt of the earth!

These two expectations are the pinnacle of our purpose to the world, they allow the Lord work through us to get his people back to his kingdom. So if you didn't understand anything from this blog, you can take away these two things; You are an example of what the world should be (you are the light) and you the the teacher of all good things (an influencer). Everything you do must go through the criteria of these two things and you would've fulfilled your purpose.
